Which Copter for scale?????

Hi all,
I'm pretty new to R/C Helis but not R/C as such. Can you reccommend a Heli which i can learn on yet be able to realise my scale dreams later on. I'm interested in Varios skyfox 60. I like Vario cos their scale fuselages are pretty good ( or so i think ), Though they don't seem that popular ( am i wrong )?
Also is Benzine better than regular...So many questions. Cheers!!! Confused

Hi matty and welcome to the forum

If you haven’t got a heli yet I would recommend a 30 size pod and boom heli like a raptor. It’s a good machine to learn on and cheep to crash. When you can fly that reasonably you can start thinking about scale. The vario line is one of the most complete for going scale. A good starting point is the Kobold it’s a Skyfox with some of the bearings missing, I have one with over 70 flights on it and it’s still got no slop.

A Benzine is a petrol engine heli very nice but very expensive about £850 just for the pod and boom setup then engine, gyro and servos on top of that.

The only down side of the Vario line up is dealing with the sole importer, can be a bit frustrating at times but he has improved lately.

Just to get you going here is my Vario EC135

If your in scotland why not come along to the Falkirk Heli day going to be some scale helis there

Hi Matty,

Sorry to say this but Vario scale aint worth the money, there mechanics are great but the scale stuff is expensive and not worth the cash, I have a vario tiger and wouldnt buy another vario, After seeing some of the century and graupner scale stuff i will be going that way nicer building and a lot cheaper.

No probs matty,

people will say to you that vario is real sclae and graupner is semi scale, I can assure you that the majority of the vario stuff is also semi scale so dont listwen to them. my next project is a graupner check this stuff out http://www.v-eastonline.com/linkroom.html

Whilst I agree with Graham that a lot of the vario line is semi-scale I have a problem with the Graupner kit, in that the range is very limited to about six types of very common Heli’s. Century has a much larger range but most of them are just repackaged funkey fuselages.

Are the Graupner mechanics any good?? Is the £230 Uni expert mechanic any good for flying their Bell 230 or would it be wiser to go for the £520 Uni 2000. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to buy a Concept 30 to train on but this is for my Scale copter. Cheers!! Laughing

The uni expert flies fine but i dont know about longevity, thats the one i will buy any way as it aint going to get any abuse being scale.
