Heli Clubs in Fife

Hi Guys

It really narked me to find out over the last month or so about the attitude of plank flyers towards the heli flyers.

There are two excellent Aeromodelling flying fields nearby. One is 2 miles from my house and the other is 4 miles.

Balbedie Aeromodelling club http://www.balbedie-aeromodelling-club.co.uk/ while boldly claiming to be one of the most progressive model flying clubs, have a no Helicopters policy or rather they told me they dont cater for them.

I'm awaiting a reply from Glenrothes Aeromodelling club http://www.gac-fife.org.uk/ to see what they say. I bet I can predict the answer!

Since I posted this over on RC Heliaddict I've had a reply stating that Heli Flying at GAC is by committee permission only due to previous problems????? In other words dont bother!!!

What I dont understand, and perhaps somebody can enlighten me, is why? I would have thought that the more flyers at these clubs the better!

So it looks like I have to do a 60 mile drive to Livingstone/Bath for a Heli club or stick with the back garden/public park 300 meters down the road.

Personally the Garden etc is looking favourite just now. I can get home for 8pm and then get an hour or so in the garden practicing my hovering but as I get better (hopefully) then its going to have to be the park.

As a driving instructor I work silly hours and can occasionally have gaps during the day when I could nip to the local fields and fly but I can't be hasseled doing a 60 mile drive for it!

So does anyone know if a Heli club in Fife? What happened to the Kirkcaldy club that met at the Dunniker House Hotel a few years ago?

Old farts that's the problem, If your stuck falkirk has a nice field at airth and we welcome heli's.

But thats the problem, Falkirk is about an hours drive each way from Glenrothes so it kind of defeats the purpose.

Still peeved that the two local clubs are so up there own backsides!

yea tell me about it i live in edinburgh and go to the falkirk club... we have some guys from your way so i dont know of you will have any luck with local clubs, playing fields are ok once you can fly but the setup/flying help you will get from other flyers is invaluable as is not being hassled by curious kids/idiotic adults

I've been there, done it, bought the tee shirt and the video of this crazy situation.
Not much point calling it a flying club when all you have is a bunch of old guys who are set in their ways and get upset if they are not in control of what the determine to be THIER club.

I stay in Fife as well and would definitely advise the Falkirk club.
The Heli and Fixed wing guys fly on different sides of the flying area, you always have a good banter and they are always happy to help and pass on that invaluable advise and support if and when needed.

If it is to far for you, the Kinross club has re-opened its field and is only a 20 minute drive for you but I have never been there and met the guys.

From the picture gallery it looks as though they still allow heli’s though.

I've found the same thing.

I live in Dalry in North Ayrshire and have had the same experience three and four years ago. Was in the Warrix flying club 2002 - 2005 and and it was a struggle with the heli. One committee member who is/was in the committee of the SAA was openly hostile and sugested what I might do with my heli.

Also aproached the people in the Garnock flying club, the negative vibes were enough not to bother.

I'm now in the Burn Country Flyers Club near Tarbolton (prestwick), who run the club with the attitude if it's RC, it's allowed.

Looks to me like we need more heli biased clubs started in Scotland.

There are two of us heli flyers here in Dalry, we use an area in the local park on Sundays but it's not ideal. Dogs, weens, nosey adults etc.

So now.

Anybody else out there in the North Ayrshire area doin' helis interested in trying to do something about it ?

I currently go across to Falkirk Model flying club, I live in Cardenden. You are correct that the local clubs being full of old farts don't welcome heli's at all.
If it's a quick hover practice, rather than going through to Falkirk, we found a couple of quiet spots within Southfield Industrial estate - Not ideal, but hey!

But please come along to Falkirk, you'll find a bunch of friendly, helpful guys and it makes the trip worthwhile!

skimask am fae Kinglassie next time u guys go flying at Southfield fancy PMing me, am just getting into heli's and wouldn't mind firing along for a watch sometime.

also I have a RC Procopter Sport think its a bit to much heli for me to handle at the moment hehe have had it hopping about and hovering for a couple of secs lol would like to see someone with experience fly it and make sure it's set up right Wink

you can always come along to Clyde view club, you'll be more than welcome. It well worth the travel, if its raining you dont have to sit in a car till it goes off, we have a portacabin

come along this sunday, it dont matter what the weather is like, you'll always find some1 there. portacabin helps with that till the rain goes off, plus you get a laugh and a tea or coffee.

Hi, I've been a member of the Kinross Model Flying Club now for over two years, and fly mainly heli's, with the odd plank flight thrown in when the winds not favorable for rotary flight. We have a small membership of around 25, and hope to build on this. Heli's are most welcome, and at present there are only 5 of us who fly heli's. We have a superb site with a seperate heli practice area, and a club portacabin. We meet on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons from 11am, although as a member you can come along 7 days a week and fly to your hearts content. When I'm home (I work abroad for 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off) I'm usually available to offer assistance with heli setups and flight training.
