I know a lot of you cringe at even the word competion when it comes to heli's.

How many people would be interested in a go at basic aerobatics through to 3D. I know there are loads out there who can loop, roll, stall turn etc.

I would like to try a 'very inclusive' format that allows pilots of virtually any ability i.e loop upwards to 'Have a go'

I think it would potentially benefit anybody who turns out by learning from the experience. It would also be great to see the few better pilots trying a little harder Laughing

We really do need to introduce something in Scotland, as we are rapidly becoming a backwater ability wise compared to the rest of the UK and beyond.

We would use 'peer' judging i.e. the pilots themselves on the day. Each pilot would choose 5 Set manouvres..anything really..
Pilot chooses manouvres to suit his own ability from a very extensive list..loop, roll. stall turn, Hovering triangle..etc etc..anything goes...
It's for fun afterall so you can choose things that suit you on the day.

Ideally 3 rounds minimium, 2 x Set manouvres (you can fly same manouvres each round) Then an optionial 3 minute freestyle flight (fly around Wink )
Again it is totally free what you choose to fly or do in the 3 minutes (BTW 3 mins is not long..When I tried it up the field today, I just got into the hover and darted about a bit and was out of time before I knew it Embarassed )

The handfull of better guys..my estimate is 4-5 ..could.. should they wish fly 5 Set manouvres from the 3DX format list? Their 3 minute freestyle would hopefully provide a bit of a spectacle as they push the daisy's..er! I mean flight envelope Twisted Evil

What you reckon? Only one other thing..Although we have the capacity/room/facilities etc to run this event at my field in Dingwall (by Inverness) Would distance be a problem?

So I would be really interested to hear your views

MJG

If your capable of judging your certainly capable of flying Wink

The judges are the pilots themselves

What we do is rotate the judges as we fly? For example 3 judges.. each flight one drops out.. so in theory anyway.. each pilot watches three flights per round.

That way, we then learn what to look for and it gives them ideas to benefit there flying too..Afterall the pilots themsevles know whats best at the end of the day.

It's all about involvement, I want people to just enjoy themselves. Ideally they can use it as a method to help improve there flying whilst at the same time getting to see some better flyers.

I know you are up for it Stephen.. It's getting the other 50 or more flyers interested. What we need is a is a committment to attend from the top half dozen. The half dozen also need to play there part by encouraging the club pilots to actually participate.

So if you can loop , roll and do a stall turn..that is plenty good enough.

I'll come Barney providing the date doesn't clash with anything else. Hopefully Mario won't get to film my helis demise again Laughing

I wouldn't be too disheartened about lack of replies on forums, as they say 'Organise it and they will come'! Cool
