Hey all,
Ive been flicking through pages and pages of hellis and i see that turbines are slowly catching on to nitros but obvously not everyone has the funds to purchase 1.How long can you run a turbine for and ive heard that you have to compress the fuel b4 running. The only reason i ask is that the old fart i call my father has this idea of building 1 aswell as designing blades. Its curiosity.

Hi Eddz
As I am into the scale side of this hobby, turbines are in my future some day because not only can you get a heli to look and fly like the real thing, it sounds and smells like one too. As for fuel no you don’t compress it, you store at atmospheric pressure but at 200 ml/min you will need a large tank but with up to 8BHP that’s not a problem.
You can buy blades up to a disk size of 3m so it’s not worth committing your pride and joy to something you made in your garage.
Big downer for turbines is the cost a Wren 54 with gearbox plus Fadec is getting close to £3000 slightly less if you assemble it yourself when you can buy one from Thunder Tiger for less than £1000 I may just consider getting one.
If you have ever been around a turbine heli the smell and sound just get to you and yes I do like the smell of Jet A1 in the morning
Just to get you going
