Pete Hi again , re www.rotor.com.sg
They are great to deal with, priices are singapore dollars and postage cheaper than Hong Kong
They ship lightening fast but can be a bit slow to answer emails mainly due to
a. the goods will probably arrive before they answer and
b. the high email count they get.
so if you write order in subject line it gets retained and attended to.
Min is the person I deal with She? is very helpful

Hi there,
I'm new to this site and to the cool world of r/c helicopters
After a bit of checking out on the web, I am finally ready to make my first purchase and get my first helicopter.
I saw the post about the store in sigapore, and I rokon this is where I`ll get my kit.
After reading a few posts, I have decided to go for the raptor 50 V2, it seems pretty flexible with regards to learning and just being a good all round heli.
I need some info on what else I will need, kit-wise.
Radio, Gyro, Engine, etc and need some advice on whats the best to buy, I dont want the best, coz I aint loaded, but I want something kinda middle of the road.
Can any body out there help me???
P.S. I had also considered buying one off of e-bay, a kyoshio nexus 30 and another one, looked pretty similar, both are going for £225. Do you rekon as a beginer, that would do the job, or do you rekon it may have hidden faults, etc. I would love to build one myself, but a whole kit for 225, cant really argue with that...or can you???
Also what level of completion does a new heli come????

Hi Helicol
Like you I'm new to this, best bit of advice would be go to your nearest Heli club.
I have, found a great bunch at the Nuneaton Model Helicopter Club. See what they are all flying, as this is where you will learn.
The advice they gave me was to stay clear of models off e-bay, unless you can see them fly.
Take a look at the Sceadu Evolution 30 or 50, if you shop around you can find these for about 200/240. The 50 is where I'm going, read an article in RotorWorld, flies great and will take you from beginner into intermidiate, abit of Bling and its good enough for the Maters (2 Entered in 2004)
I did look at the Raptor 50, but all I kept reading was about the upgardes everyone adds so it gets better. The EVo flies great from out of the Box.
As for radio get the best you can, I've gone a little mad and waiting for a New JR PCM9X V2 on order, check INWOODMODELS for some of the cheapest deals in the UK. Most of the club use JR 3810's
I did look at buying the radio from abroad , but got put of by lack of warrenty, others parts I would buy from Cyberheli, IIOSHEIMOKEI (I think its called) and HELIKRAFT. Not seen any bad comments on these, although I have not brought.
There is a guy on ebay who sells stuff Brand New, which I feel safe with, at a good price. EVO 50 for £229, think he goes under FOOTLOCK100 (I'l update it later)
Those who I will fly with say, get the Best Radio and Gyro you can. They have advised the Futuba GY401 gyro with a 9253 or 54 servo.
Its difficult what to buy, so seek the advice as I say from the club you intend to Fly with, if they Fly mostly Raptors then you will have expirenced members who can advise you about building or flying the model. If they Fly Hirobo Sceadu Evo 30/50 then think about that.
Finally
Get a SIM, i brought mine second hand, crashed all over the place on day one, Hovering on day two. Worth the wait in gold .
Good luck, let us know what you went for

Hey,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, the e-bay auction ended, the heli and radio went for £260, not to worry.
So you rekon dont go for the Raptor, is that just because of all its plastic parts. I just want a good all round heli, if I need to spend money on upgrades (when I need them) then so be it.
Guess it was just because that store in Sigapore were selling them at what I thought was a good price.
Had a look at the 50 size shuttle, does 30 and 50 mean the size or something, what does that relate to??
Ok, say i go for this shuttle heli, which radio should I go for, would the Futaba FF9 super and its servos that come with the deal work and do the job???
Really, I wanna start this hobby, I wanna buy new, and really I just want someone to tell me this is a good heli, this is a good radio that'll work good with it, this is a good gyro which will do goo and heres a list of the other bits and bobs to get you going!!!
It seems like quite a complicated sport/hobby, but I cant wait to get my teeth into it!!!!

I think Jasper said it all only a few things I will add is radios do come with full warranty from abroad and you will find if you need service they will process you quicker than the UK based agents especially Futaba. Raptors do fly well with no mods but there seems to be a bit of an upgrade culture. Most people don’t need any “upgrades” until there into full 3D. The big plus with the raptor is every model shop has some spares and there cheaper and most people understand them.
But whatever you get don’t be tempted to fly it yourself first flight get someone to check it over and trim it out.
Also never be tempted by a nexus it only ends with a Big repair bill _________________ Alex

hi helicol
i started with the raptor and find this a very good heli, the 30 and 50 mean the size of engine, as for a radio i would go for the ff9 that will do you for a very long time. gyro go for 401. i have seen a lot a guys buy cheap gyro, then have to upgrade.
have you looked for a club,we have club night in the winter at a hall in bellshill, should be one next week i think. will let you know, you could come along.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your replys,
Think I will go for the Raptor 50 V2, the FF9 and the 401 gyro. Engine wise, theres not much between it. Gonna go for the OS 50sx hyper.
If I get all of that, do you think Thats good enough for a beginner?
What else will I need to get me started (the full package) Do you think any of the stuff above is over spec'd.
I saw on the first post on this site, the raptor 50 with a TT50 engine was prices quite keenly, would that work ok???
I will check out the web-sites mentioned, deffo interested in the club near bellshill, thats just up the road from me!
Would appreciate if you could let me know details of the club night.

The Choice you have made is a very good combination and will take you into the realms of 3D.(when you get better)
The Raptor is a very good heli straight out of the box. As you're skills progress then you will start to add upgrades. In Fact I would advise leaving the upgrades alone untill you are ready to start hard 3D (Less expence in a crash)
If you take up the offer to go to the club night or visit a club you will see first hand exactly what else you will need that you dont already have It's much easier to see the stuff first hand than have others trying to describe items LOL

Helicol
I too looked at the FF9 and Raptor, all I can say, is, if the club I joined had mainly Futaba's, especially those who will buddy box me, then i'd buy that.
As I said my club use JR, the lads who are going to help me all use JR Radio's.
I'd hate you to join a club and no one can Buddy box you, you can learn on your own I expect, just that the learning curve and crash saving will be better if you have an expierenced pilot at your side.

Hey,
Cheers...
Yip think I will deffo go to a club day/night and see whats there and start to build up a list of stuff...the price is fair climbing!!!!
Was on a us site, I think, and they said a simulator was worth its weight in gold, infact if money is tight, (which its getting that way!!!) newbies should buy the best radio kit they can afford and buy a simulator and practice, practice, practice. They did say also that this is not the kind of stuff new blood wants to hear, but they added, that helis come and go Radios are for much longer!!!!
Its all very daunting!!!
Best go to a club I think.
Thanks very much to everyone for their advice, great forum.
