New guy from the Dalkeith area

Hi there,

I bought a Trex 450 off a mate down south. He's had a fair amount of extras put in but I'm afraid of totally wrecking it. I did do a bit of hovering (if you can call it that) and dunted it into the ground. I've replaced the main rotors and skid struts. I've noticed now that the tail doesn't return to the centre position though? I'm not sure if i've damaged it or changed a setting somewhere.

I'm hoping to get along to a club for some advice and a bit of help. Where's best for a heli-new guy?

Can you move the tail slider by hand freely or is it stuck solid?
Everything sould be moving freely, so pop off the ball link from the tail servo and see if you can move the tail control rod freely by hand. If it can move work your way along the tail until you find where it is sticking.

If you 'dunted' it heavy enough to break the blades and skids you may well of bent a shaft or two. The tail rotor shaft may be slightly bent (enough to stop the tail pitch slider from sliding freely along the shaft). This slight bend might be so small that it is not visible when it is in the heli, the best way to check it is to remove it from the heli and the roll it along a completely flat surface like a sheet of glass. This will highlight any slight bend.

If the main blades broke it would be worth checking the main shaft and feathering shaft too, as these are also commonly bent in a 'dunt' Wink

If they are bent you will get a vibration in the head when you next spin her up.

Luckily these shafts are very cheap to replace. Very Happy

I should be along on Sunday so hopefully I'll get to the bottom of it then.

The tail is weird, it does move freely but it doesn't return to the centre. I'm not sure if it's a setting I've put on or if it is damage. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Scott, give me a shout, I fly a TREX450, should be able to sort it out for you. Bring any spares you have in case we need them.
