Any electronic wizards out there have any ideas on how I could run a brushless motor and esc of a temperature sensor , a simple on off would do

What are you trying to achieve Colin, a motor that slows down when it gets close to a temperature ?

Hi Alex
I want to be able to control an electric fan (brushless ) to cool the engine on the Hirobo project , at the moment I have it mixed with the throtle servo but thought about trying to switch it with a thermostat instead

Maplin do a kit of parts to build one.
Either switch on or off at required temp
Don't know if it would work with three wire brushless

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=220003&doy=12m6#overview

or could use a thermistor to make fan speed
up as temp rises

Hope this is useful

Derek

Good thinking Alex if the temp range can be adjusted then it could be just the ticket. At the moment I`m strugling to keep the engine at a constant temp , I think a thermostat might help here`s some pics of the unit on the test bench , I can post a vid of the starter and engine running if any one is interested .

just use themistor then. can be wired to give variable voltage relative to temp. or use normal motor for fan

Lets here it Very Happy

now if you let the starter stay engaged you could turn it into a generator and by the time you have completed your flight your batteries will be all charged ready for your next flight.

That wee motor would be doing some revs if were left engaged could maybe sell some to the national grid !!!! . Brushless motors are just so much more efficient shame to use old technology . Could a servo tester be used on the ESC having never owned or used one I dont know ??
