I'm new to all of the R/C helicopter malarky (I've only just realised what ATF and RTF mean), and I'm looking to purchase the Century Airwolf Hummingbird. Is this a good 'copter to learn with? I assume being fixed pitch will make it a bit easier for me to pick up? Should I steer clear of cyclic pitch until I have some piloting skills?
Where's the best (i.e. cheapest) place to buy one in the UK?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
Daze. |

Don't know about the price of the hummy but Midland helis were doing the piccolo fun kit for £39.99 just before xmas and may still have the offer available.( also great deal on the pro kit £89.99)
If you don't mind second hand try ebay but check the feedback score of anyone you consider buying from first.
I am new as well but would suggest not getting the airwolf kit unless you decide to remove the fusalage ( looks great in one peice but not after all the crashes you will have to anticipate as a beginner, the choice is yours though).
Hopefully all the experienced flyers will post lots of useful info for you but one last thing I would suggest is find as much info as you can and shop around for the best deal not just the cheapest.
Good luck. |

Hi
IMHOP i think you will curse fixed pitch but in saying that you will get excellent results with a hirobo XRB "cordless" for fun i use one outside in a little breeze to hone my hovering skills for my Sceadu.
The hirobo is taking the Uk by storm getting rave reviews almost everywhere
its almost "plug & play" out of the box and will give you hours of fun in your lounge as long as you push the sofa back.
You could also do nicely with the T-Rex450X from Align this is a "proper" electric heli that can be bought with EVERYTHING
X1 heli inc brushless motor
X4 servos
X1 ESC(Speed Controller)
X1 Heading hold Gyro
X2 150mag Li-Po Batts
X1 Lipo (auto Balance charger)
X1 35MHZ Receiver
X1 transmitter
And all sundury items for little under £400 from Fung @ Flying Hobby in Hong Kong with NO import charges

Hi
I did a typo errror on the battery
they are infact 1500mah ones, you can get the 1800mah ones from fung for exactly the same price too.
Below is a pic of my finished T-Rex beside my Seadu
