That would depend on alot of things,
the size of the shoe box
the contents of the shoe box,
does the shoe box have an engine attached,
what shoes were in the box before the blades were attached,
Are the shoes black trainers or brown Italian loafers
are there any holes in the box and what radio will be used to fly the shoe box blade combination,

I will try this and report back my findings later on,

I will win 3d masters 2005 with my shoe box blade combo, and then dance wearing the finely styled loafers,,

Not all, the 30 will get you going, and if you wish to stay with it, then you can very easily upgrade it to a 50 size for not a lot.

Regarding the gyro, NOT mechanical, NOT rate only.
You want a heading hold gyro, CSM, Futaba, and JR all produce decent gyros. The Futaba 401 seems to be a popular and reasonable priced gyro. I would also suggest a fast tail servo as it does make a difference as you progress.

Futaba 601
Futaba 401
CSM 560
CSM 420
CSM 540

The CSM gyros require alot of playing with to make them perform but once set up they do work well,

For the 401 stick it to the model, set your servo linkage at right angles, adjust the movement so the tail linkage doesnt bind and your done,

After trying several CSM 400's and a 560 , flying with a 401 is a pleasure, although the 560 should actually be a much better gyro, its the setting it up to work that you will find tricky.(mine was never right)
Avoid the CSM 400/180

Or buy a JR Gyro if you want to be different.

(Thats alot of numbers)

Alex
Ooohhhh thats Painful Razz Razz

I'm quite impressed with the Hawk Mech's for £160 it really cant be beaten
If you go for the tail drive upgrade and the bearing upgrade you have in my opinion a better heli than the standard Raptor 30( at least for scale use and my limited 3D ability) And the Parts are readily available and Cheap
It will fit most fuses out there with little or no hassle unlike my Raptor and you will never have any woof and poof issues Laughing
For the two years of abuse that I have put it through I have spent less on it than my Raptor
